2-Day Innovative Writing and Performance Training

For teacherGirls Surviving Workshop 2017 smalls, teaching artists, counselors, psychologists  and graduate students – join us June 8th and 9th from 9 am and 3 pm for 2-day training with the founders of Girls Surviving – an innovative program in writing and performance with a proven record of changing lives. Discover how to develop teen leadership through organic and self-directed learning. Connect by participating in in-depth, group oriented, experiential learning that will give you:

– techniques for creating a safe space for teen girls to share and work together
– strategies for developing independent writing skills
– a unique collaborative approach to creating work for the stage
– nonthreatening acting exercises and stage work and stage work easily adapted to a variety of settings

Presenters: Paula Davidoff a storyteller and Carolyn Hunt, a playwright and director who are experienced teaching artists.In 2005 they combined their talents to create Girl’s Surviving, a troupe of teen actresses from the Morris School District who tell their stories through writing and performance. Over the years they have developed unique strategies that encourage teens to talk through their concerns, raise their voices about the important issues in their lives and take the lead in developing performances that reflect their insights about teen life. Paula and Carolyn have written a book about their work called: Girl’s Surviving: Teaching Teen Girls to Speak Out.

This training will take place June 8 and 9 from 9 am -3 pm at the Community Club of Brookside, I East Main Street, Brookside, NJ O7926
