Leia Gaccione. South + Pine American Eatery – Chef/Owner of Morristown’s latest gastronomic success; former Chef de Cuisine for celebrity chef Bobby Flay; competed in 3 seasons of Iron Chef America
Growing up in Passaic, New Jersey, with her brother and mother, young Gaccione skipped playing outside in order to watch cooking shows like The Frugal Gourmet and Julia Child. Because her mother worked two jobs to support the family, Gaccione began cooking at home at a young age. When Montclair State University lost her college application, she decided instead to attend New York Restaurant School (2001 – 2003), earning her Associates Degree in Culinary Arts and Restaurant Management and graduating on the Dean’s List. Over the past fourteen years, she worked in many restaurants, most recently as the Chef de Cuisine for Bobby Flay at five of his restaurants, including Mesa Grill, Bar Americain and Gato in New York, Mesa Grill in Las Vegas, and Bar Americain in Connecticut. She also appeared as his sous chef on Iron Chef America three times, twice on Iron Chef Showdown, and as a competitor on two episodes of Beat Bobby Flay. She is now pursuing her dreams with her own restaurant, South+Pine American Eatery, a casual, inviting American restaurant focused on dishes created with seasonal ingredients. Treating her guests as if there were at her own house for dinner, Gaccione hopes to make South+Pine a neighborhood staple.
