Find out how Carly Murphy and Joanne Del Rio were able to turn their passion into a full time vocation.

Joanne Del Rio. Novartis Art Collection Manager for the Americas; Board Chair for Save Ellis Island
As Novartis’ Art Curator Lead Americas for 29 years, Del Rio oversees the company’s USA, Canada, Puerto Rico and Latin American Art collections.  She is responsible for innovative ideas which focus on art to intellectually challenge, enhance employee satisfaction as well as support Novartis initiatives, encourage creative thinking and create an environment that everyone can appreciate. She is also passionate about fostering and preserving a culture of diversity, equality and inclusion through the arts. Art creates a fulfilling workplace, allowing expression of individual differences and unique talents of employees while representing Novartis’ culture, reputation and united achievements.  With research and philanthropic interests in cultural heritage management, cultural conservation, restoration, museology, archaeology, history and architecture, Del Rio is currently chair of the trustee board for Save Ellis Island (SEI), the nonprofit working to restore the historic buildings on Ellis Island.  In 2010, she curated the exhibit, “Shadow and Memory: Ellis Island’s Unrestored Buildings,” at the Morris Museum. With a BS/BM (International Business Management), MBA (Phoenix University) as well as a MFA (Fine Arts/Museum Studies, Johns Hopkins University), Del Rio is a member of American Alliance of Museums, The Association of Professional Art Advisors and International Association of Corporate Collections of Contemporary Art.

Carly Murphy. Sotheby’s – VP for Global Client Development, Contemporary Art
Murphy is an arts, sports, and French enthusiast.  Her job at Sotheby’s offers her the opportunity to pursue her passion of contemporary art by working closely with the millionaires of the world who collect it.  She travels from Aspen to London, Miami to LA to ensure the VIPs of Sotheby’s are treated like the VIPs they are. (Along the way, she has amassed a substantial repertoire of stories about them).  As a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Carly wears her shamrock on her sleeve and supports the blue and gold across all their Division I sports.  A native of Philadelphia, Murphy regularly goes toe to toe with fans of other NFC East Fans to defend her beloved Eagles.  After marrying a man who hails from Co Wexford, Ireland, Carly has learned the intricacies of Gaelic sports and has grown to enjoy hurling, Gaelic football, and rugby.  Luckily for her husband, she was already a soccer fan after spending a year in France after they won the World Cup.  A fluent French speaker, Carly prefers nothing more than strong wine, smelly cheese, and a fresh baguette.
