Carsten Brunn, PhD. Bayer Pharmaceuticals – President, Americas Region
Since January 2017, Brunn has led Bayer’s Pharmaceuticals business in the United States, Canada, and Latin America and serves as an executive member of the Country Council. He started his career at Eli Lilly & Company and, over the last 25 years, has held senior leadership positions at top pharmaceutical firms in Europe, Asia and the United States.  Most recently, he headed Bayer Pharmaceuticals Commercial Operations in Japan where his efforts led to Bayer’s recognition as one of the top 10 pharmaceutical companies in Japan for the first time in 26 years. He was Chairman of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) Japan (representing 24 R&D based innovative pharmaceutical companies in Japan) and led the Global Primary Care business for Bayer Pharmaceuticals in China. Passionate about meeting needs of customers and patients, he has an established record of building the right internal culture to drive business growth. A graduate of Germany’s U Freiburg who had a research scholarship (UWashington), he holds an MS (Pharmaceutical Science), a PhD in Chemistry (Germany’s U Hamburg) and completed his executive education (London Business School). Born in Tuebingen, Germany, Brunn is married with one son.

 

 

 

 

Alex Kelly. Allergan – EVP, Corporate Affairs & Chief Communications Officer
Kelly is always on the run – whether for his day job at Allergan, his work with healthcare boards, his wife and five children or chasing his 100 miles per month fitness goal. At Allergan, he leads a fast-paced team focused on Government Affairs, Public Relations, Media Relations, Patient Advocacy and Corporate Communications. Allergan is best known as the maker of BOTOX®, but it also makes innovative medical products for Alzheimer’s disease, depression, eye care, breast reconstruction and gastrointestinal disease. Passionate about healthcare Alex serves on Boards of California Life Sciences Association, HealthCare Institute of New Jersey, and The Allergan Foundation. Kelly has led investor relations, communications and front-line sales teams over his 29+ year career at Allergan, Bausch & Lomb, Merck, Schering-Plough and Pharmacia.  He also led the integration teams following two major healthcare mergers. Kelly holds a Pharmacy degree from Purdue University.  He and his wife Robyn (who is on the path to sainthood) try to keep up with their five kids ages 11-26. Kelly enjoys vacationing, cooking and eating with his family, and has a longstanding monthly running goal… to enable more cooking and eating.

 

 

 

 

Suneet Varma. Pfizer Essential Health – Global President
Varma oversees the work of the Global Brands team, focusing on brands such as Lipitor, Norvasc, Celebrex and Viagra, as well as Pfizer’s leading global Anti-Infectives portfolio which includes Zithromax, Sulperazon and Zyvox. Varma also oversees the work of the Asia Pacific, Latin America and Canada Regions. Previously, as President and General Manager of Pfizer Consumer Healthcare , Varma supervised global operations, including the development, marketing and distribution of major brands such as Advil, Nexium, Centrum, Caltrate and Robitussin. During his career, Varma has held many leadership positions in sales, marketing, educational programs, financial management, investor relations, legal matters, external public relations and operations within the company. Featured in such publications as Pharmaceutical Executive, PharmaVoice, he has spoken at multiple universities and business schools. Varma holds an MBA (Harvard), BS in Engineering (Tufts) and currently serves as a Drew U Trustee and on the Chief Executive Council of Madison, where he resides with his wife and two daughters.
