SUMMARY:WWII Exhibit opens at Acorn Hall
DESCRIPTION:The Morris County Historical Society's latest exhibit, "Over Here and Over There: Morris County's Role in World War II," opens Sunday, March 20, 2011 at Acorn Hall and runs until 2012.  The exhibit is included in the price of a tour of Acorn Hall. Admission is free to active or retired military personnel presenting a valid military ID card. The exhibit focusses on how ordinary citizens willingly left their families and sacrificed their comfort and safety to fight on foreign shores. It will also examine the sacrifices made at home, from the women who went to work in  factories to the efforts of school children to gather much needed materials for war supplies. On display will be uniforms, medals, photographs, documents and other objects and oral histories from Morris County veterans and other Morris County residents who contributed to the war effort.  In addition, several of Acorn Hall's period rooms will reflect the daily life of a household during World War II. Activities such as food rationing, scrap drives, and awaiting news reports by radio will be depicted. In the spring, a Victory Garden will be planted on the grounds. The exhibit has been extended until March 25, 2012. The Museum is open to the public on Mondays and Thursdays from 10am -4pm and on Sundays, from 1-4pm. For directions and additional information, call (973) 267-3465 or visit www.acornhall.org.
