Arts Council of the Morris Area seeks Arts Award Nominations for 2012
The Arts Council of the Morris Area is seeking nominations for arts awards featured at its annual Celebrate the Arts event which honors those individuals and organizations making a significant impact in the arts through service, advocacy, support and education.Categories for nominations include Outstanding Arts Organization, Outstanding Arts Educator/School, Outstanding Arts Advocate, Outstanding Corporation/Business and Outstanding Professional in the Arts. The deadline for submission of arts award nominations is February 1, 2011.

On May 12th, in the restored gardens and Gilded Age Mansion at Fairleigh Dickinson University, the Arts Council of the Morris Area held its annual Celebrate the Arts event and presented its 2011 Awards for Outstanding Arts Advocate: Art Bonito; Outstanding Arts Organization: Blackwell Street Center for the Arts; Outstanding Corporation/Business: Atlantic Health; Outstanding Arts Educator/School: Mount Olive High School; and Outstanding Professional in the Arts: Harry Simon. Morristown CraftMarket, Kiwanis Club of Randolph Township received a Special Recognition. David Clair and Emma Joy Dana, were also honored as they step down from their long and distinguished service as members of the Arts Council Board. The event was sponsored by The MCM Group at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, Emma Joy Dana and TD Bank. More than 100 members of the arts community shared in this heady and exciting celebration of the arts – an evening of tribute to the power of the arts to inspire, heal and teach. Kenn Jones, Curator of Education for the New Jersey State Museum, presented the awards.

The event was also an occasion to celebrate the future, introducing this year’s talented graduating high school seniors who won the Arts Council’s two scholarships. Dancer Madelyn Eltringham, an Oak Ridge resident graduating from the Morris County School of Technology, Academy for Visual & Performing Arts, was awarded the 2011 Elaine Ehlers Arts Scholarship ($4,750). Visual artist Catalina Ouyang, a resident of Morris Plains graduating from Parsippany Hills High School, was awarded the Eugenie Coladarci Arts Scholarship ($1,250). In the fall, Madelyn will be attending State University of New York at Purchase, NY and Catalina will be attending the Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, MO – on full tuition scholarship.
The evening also included a multimedia presentation by teaching artists Marco Giammetti and Carol Hendrickson of Spiritree. It was truly a night to be inspired!
