August 8th: Free Arts Events at Gateway Totems/Early Street Community Garden

Join us on Thursday, August 8th from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at the Gateway Totems at Grow it Green’s Early Street Community Garden for  free community arts events. Listen to live music by blues guitarist Adam Najemian, have your portrait painted by professional artist Anne Mitchell, make handmade jewelry at a macrame workshop led by artist Cesar Salas and grab your farm-fresh vegetables at Grow It Green Morristown’s pop-up farm stand – all in one stop! What better way to spend a summer evening in Morristown? All ages are welcome to attend and participate.

Live portraits by Anne Mitchell
Get your own colorful portrait painted right before your very eyes! Sit with Anne as she creates a whimsical watercolor painting just for you, in just a few minutes! Anne Mitchell is a Morristown native and freelance artist with a degree in Fine Art from the School of Visual Arts, where she honed her artistic skills and focused on large-scale artwork, creating art with recycled and industrial materials, and, most importantly, community art. Anne believes that fine art should be the most accessible to all people: no matter their age, gender, language or culture; visual expression has the power to resonate, provoke and tell the story of human history.

Music by Adam Najemian

Adam has opened for and played with several big names in music and blues, including Grammy nominated artist Danielle Nicole, Tab Benoit, Samantha Fish, Pat Dinizio of The Smithereens, Eric Steckel, Shemekia Copeland, Matt Schofield and Billy Hector. He has been featured on local radio stations HomeGrownRadioNJ.org and WNTI.org, including interviews and live performances. Currently, you can see Adam play most Monday nights at the Red Lion’s ‘Big Ed’s Blues Jam’ in New York City.

Macrame Workshop by Cesar Salas
This small course is a short introduction to the technique called macrame. The macrame is a system of intertwined knots that create different patterns. This technique is commonly made from waxed cotton thread or organic yarn. With this technique, it is possible to make many objects from different complexities, such as simple bracelets and necklaces, to handbags, tapestries, and clothing. All ages are invited to participate!

In addition, Grow it Green Morristown will be having their Pop-up Farm Stand. Get your farm-fresh produce, grown right here in Morristown! The farm stand will be from 3:00 – 6:00 pm. Use your EBT Card and get $20 worth of vegetables for only $10!

We hope you will join us for this free and fun community event located at the Early Street Community Garden located at 17 Early Street in Morristown.
