Conversationalist: Mark Rivera

Mark Rivera

Longtime saxophonist for Billy Joel

Billy Joel’s saxophonist for 38 years, Mark has performed with a veritable Who’s Who of music’s elite, including John Lennon, Sir Paul McCartney, Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, Simon & Garfunkel, Don Henley, and Tony Bennett, among others. He worked with Peter Gabriel on the classic track Sledgehammer, as Ringo Starr’s Musical Director for the last 24 years and with such music legends as Jack Bruce (Cream), Peter Frampton, John Entwistle (The Who), Gary Brooker (Procol Harum), Rod Argent (The Zombies), and Greg Rolie (Santana). In 2010, Mark assembled a band to celebrate Ringo Starr’s 70th Birthday at Radio City — featuring Paul McCartney AND Ringo, an experience Mark said “… was like watching the dream come full circle.” He organized a 2007 London tribute to the late Jim Capaldi (Traffic) raising money for his children’s charity The Landmark Trust. “It was a Joy working with Traffic colleague Steve Winwood, Pete Townshend of The Who, Jon Lord of Deep Purple and many more of my British Idols.” Passionate about his music, Mark also cares deeply about “giving back” and never forgetting his roots. He takes great pride serving on the Board of Give An Hour (helping veterans with PTSD) and recently joining Scott Shannon/CBSFM at Blythehdale Children’s Hospital.
