Morristown, NJ – May 30 — The Board of Trustees of Morris Arts announces the resignation of Executive Director Tom Werder, who has led the organization for the past 13 years.
During his tenure, Tom guided Morris Arts through a period of growth and development. His achievements included the expansion of arts education programs, launching of an Arts in Health Initiative, increased support for local artists and arts organizations, the advancement of public art and cultural initiatives across the region, and the successful navigation of the organization through the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Over more than a decade, Werder’s leadership guided Morris Arts to a platform for civic imagination and cultural architecture, anchored in equity, public engagement, and resilience. “I didn’t just want to lead well—I wanted to leave well. And this moment is that culmination,” said Werder. “The values are embedded. The work ahead is growth, fundraising, and scale.”
As Morris Arts looks ahead to the future, the organization is embarking on a new strategic direction to continue evolving in response to the needs of the community and the broader arts landscape. “We thank Tom for his years of service and leadership,” said Stephen Aluotto, President of the Board. “He has played a significant role in shaping our recent history, and we wish him the best in his future endeavors.”
Patsy Clew, Finance Director, has been appointed Interim Executive Director. She can be reached at pclew@morrisarts.org.
