What Is The AMP?
The Amp is a new multidisciplinary arts hub at 10 N. Warren Street in Dover. The 11,000-square-foot facility features a black box performance area, gallery space, classrooms, art studios, and a ceramics center with two electric kilns.
Built and managed by West Morris Capital, The Amp anchors a creative placemaking initiative bringing high-quality arts programming to Dover, supported by a $500,000 NJEDA A.R.T. Phase II grant. Since February, partners Morris Arts, MCOHA, and IDEA Cultural have brought performances, classes, and events to the space, from Chambacú Latin Fusion to multi-media art classes for high schoolers, with more programming, including a summer arts day camp for ages 8–12, on the way.

Creating a More Vibrant Downtown Dover
The Amp’s goals are:
Be human: The Amp believes we’re at our most human when we are creating and connecting in community.
Be excellent: The Amp strives toward excellence in terms of the quality of the art it showcases, the value of the teaching it offers, and the execution of the events it produces.
Be approachable: The Amp believes excellent art does not need to be appreciated from a distance or limited to elites. Its intimate setting invites people to engage directly with all levels of art and artists.
Be interesting: The Amp’s smaller scale allows for exploration of art that is new and different.
Be diverse: The Amp aims to use its reach to amplify the art of under-represented populations, artists, and art styles.
These goals align with the ongoing mission of the Amp’s parent company, West Morris Capital, to make western Morris County an even better place to live, work, and visit.
A Community Collaboration
Four partner organizations came together through the A.R.T. Phase II grant to bring new arts programming to The Amp. Each partner leads a distinct part of that work, helping grow Dover’s arts community.

Reimagining a Downtown Cornerstone
The Amp is located in the basement level of The Richards Building, a cornerstone of Dover’s downtown that dates back nearly to the town’s incorporation in 1869. For over 144 years, The Richards Building has been the town’s centerpiece, housing Dover’s first newspaper, several thriving retail businesses, the office of Dover’s first Mayor, and more. The building has seen Dover’s population change from one composed of mainly European immigrants in the 1800s to the colorful tapestry of Caribbean, South, and Central American immigrants that make up the majority of the town’s population today.
The Richards Building’s transformation is ongoing, with further renovation by West Morris Capital underway. Once complete in late 2026, the Richards Building will house The Amp, an indoor/outdoor artisan market, several restaurants and event spaces, and dozens of office suites and artist studios. West Morris Capital hopes that their investment in Dover’s downtown, combined with the generous funding that supports this year’s A.R.T. Phase II programming, will continue to bring visitors from throughout the county and the state to experience Dover’s art and culture!
