About Morris Arts’ Creative Aging Program
Art experiences can improve health and well-being in people of all ages. Music can improve cognitive function in people with dementia while dance can ease symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease. We believe it’s vital to bring these experiences to senior citizens who are often overlooked when it comes to arts programming.
The Morris Arts Creative Aging Program was launched in 2023 with the goal of providing transformative experiences in the arts for our senior community. Each year Morris Arts partners with two community organizations to provide 16 free weekly sessions with visiting artists in a variety of disciplines.
Creative Aging 2025
We were pleased to offer two creative aging residencies during fall and winter 2025-2026.
Led by author and poet, Paul Rabinowitz, these workshops helped participants delve deeper into the creative process and hone their craft while bringing their personal stories to life.
Creative Aging at Gateway Community Resource Center
Our Creative Aging Memoir Writing series at Gateway Community Resource Center in Boonton wrapped on Thursday, December 4.
This 8-week workshop series was mainly focused on memoir writing. During the last few sessions the group also focused on using different art forms to inspire their writing. During the final session participants shared pieces that they wrote based on photographs they were given in the previous workshop.
Additionally, in the final session they watched an interpretive dancer perform, and teaching artist Paul Rabinowitz challenged them to write pieces based on the performance.
Participants have written some beautiful pieces over the 8-session workshop series and we’re so pleased they shared their work with us.
Creative Aging for Veterans at Morristown Library
Veterans and their family members ages 55+ joined us at the Morristown Library for an 8-week memoir writing series which ran from December 2025 to February 2026.
